How to Check a Used Phone Before You Buy It

Buying a used phone in Pakistan can save you 40–60% against retail, but only if you know what to look at. Here is the checklist our inspection team runs on every device that passes through MobileMart.

1. Verify the IMEI first

Dial *#06# and compare the IMEI on screen with the one printed on the box and in Settings. All three should match. Then check the device's registration status on the PTA DIRBS portal — an unregistered device will lose mobile network access after 60 days.

2. Read the real battery health

On iPhone, Settings → Battery → Battery Health shows maximum capacity. Anything above 85% is healthy for a device two or more years old. Android varies by manufacturer; ask the seller for a screenshot from a diagnostics app and treat "100%" on a three-year-old phone with suspicion.

3. Confirm the display is original

Aftermarket panels are the most common hidden repair. Look for uneven backlight at the edges, a colour cast when tilting the screen, and a bezel that sits slightly proud of the frame. On iPhones, Settings → General → About will flag non-genuine parts.

4. Test every camera and sensor

Open the camera app and cycle through each lens. Check autofocus in good light and in shade. Make a call to test the earpiece, then play audio to test the speaker. Test Face ID or the fingerprint reader several times.

5. Inspect the charging port

Look inside with a torch for lint, corrosion or bent pins. Plug in a cable and wiggle it gently — charging should not cut out.
